Our approach

We want everyone to be able to explore this website, design a project and get in touch with us, whatever device or assistive technology they use.

Standards and guidelines

The website is designed and built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. It has not yet been independently audited. [Add the audit date and result when one is done]

Features of this website

  • Every page can be used with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator and a link to skip to the main content.
  • Text and controls are designed to meet AA color contrast in every color scheme.
  • Forms have visible labels and hints; errors are described in words, linked from a summary at the top of the form, and announced to screen readers.
  • Design Your Project works completely from the list of parts, without the 3D house. The 3D house can be turned off, explored with buttons instead of dragging, and walked through with the keyboard, with rooms announced as you enter them.
  • Animation is reduced when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • Informative images have text alternatives; decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.

Known limitations

The 3D house is a visual illustration; everything it shows is also available as text in the parts list. [List any further limitations found in testing or an audit]

Third-party content

Card payment fields at checkout are provided by Stripe, which maintains its own accessibility program.

Browsers and assistive technology

The website is designed for current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on computers, tablets and phones, and to work with screen readers such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver and TalkBack.
